What finally did it was some disturbing threats of violence and sex posted on two other blogs... blogs authored and/or owned by a group that includes prominent bloggers. People you've probably heard of.

SALINAS, Calif.- Youth crime prevention programs in Monterey County are working, according to a report being sent to state officials. The study found the number of youths re-arrested within six months of completing the programs had declined 20 to 33 percent compared to young offenders who didn't take part in the intervention programs. The study is prepared annually as a requirement of the state's Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act.
