Officials in the Franklin County District Attorney's office are stepping up efforts to recover money owed to victims of crime. The office has started a restitution recovery unit that will be responsible for collecting unpaid restitution that was ordered in court cases. It also will go after unpaid court costs.
“The commissioners deserve to be commended for their foresight in funding this program,” said Yellow Medicine County assistant county attorney Amanda Sieling. Her comments came in response to Yellow Medicine County commissioners voting unanimously to fund a full-time Circle Sentencing Coordinator for the county.
The Government yesterday announced a blueprint to introduce a system of restorative justice to Ireland by the end of the decade. Tánaiste Michael McDowell announced he has set up a commission to examine the system which provides an alternative to prison and forces offenders to face up to the consequences of their behaviour.
“Restorative justice, to a lot of police, is a touchy-feely, new kind of thing,” he said.
Ottawa’s new police chief says he wants to expand restorative justice in the city. Chief-designate Vernon White, who starts his new post in May, told the Citizen Friday that he hopes to institute a restorative justice program within six months.
Women will march on the Auckland police station on Thursday to demand changes to the way sex offending cases are dealt with following last week's acquittal of suspended Auckland police chief Clint Rickards. Ms Gray said New Zealand's adversarial system "puts the victim on trial more than the person who has been accused". Victim support groups backing the march are calling for a shift to European-style "inquisitorial" justice or restorative justice for sex abuse cases.
The Belknap County (New Hampshire) Citizens Council on Children and Families has received a grant of $47,710 from the New Hampshire Division for Juvenile Justice Services to aid in data collection among the providers of services to juvenile delinquents in Belknap County.
